My approach

My goal is to help you explore the emotional questions in your life so that you can understand, with greater clarity, why you feel like you do. My practice offers a non-judgemental, confidential setting where we can reflect on what has brought you to this point in your life, and consider your potential to live differently in the future.

I pay close attention not only to your current concerns, but also the past experiences and relationships that shape them. Often, we view the present through a lens of the past, and can end up stuck in emotional patterns which are no longer appropriate or helpful. By reflecting on how these patterns have formed, therapy can help you to identify which aspects of your life you would like to hold onto, and which you would rather let go.

Before training as a therapist my background was in the arts and literature, and as a result I pay close attention to the narratives we construct to protect ourselves from pain. I am particularly interested in the disconnection between our public and private selves, and the feelings of inhibition and isolation that can build as a result. My clinical experience includes working with people suffering from depression, persistent anxiety, relationship problems and low self-esteem, but I also understand that it can be difficult to put your finger on exactly what is wrong - this too is a valid place to start.

My qualifications and experience

I trained as a psychodynamic psychotherapist at the WPF and the British Psychotherapy Foundation, both leading training organisations with reputations for clinical excellence. I am an accredited member of the UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy) and the BPC (British Psychoanalytic Council), and I adhere to the highest ethical and clinical practice standards. I am also a professional member of the Foundation for Psychotherapy and Counselling (FPC), and a member of the London Therapy Network.

My philosophy

Research consistently shows that the most significant factor in therapeutic success is the relationship between therapist and client. Finding someone that you can trust is crucial if you are to feel safe enough to be honest - and honesty is at the heart of meaningful change. There’s a quote by the writer Annie Dillard which has always struck me: “How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives”. In the same way I believe that who we allow ourselves to be in the fifty minutes of a therapy session - the honesty and bravery that we aspire to - can have a profound effect on how we are able to understand ourselves and connect with the people around us.
